My birthday is only a few days away, and it’s that time where people ask “what do you want for your birthday?” Other than trying to pay down my remaining student loan debt and wanting to save up for a MacBook of my own (it’s about time), I don’t really like asking for gifts. But I do like asking people to donate to causes I believe in. This year I’m asking friends to consider donating to one of two important causes.
Ileana Cuevas Memorial Fund at Detroit Cristo Rey
The students at Detroit Cristo Rey High School are near and dear to my heart. In memory of a student that was killed last year by gun violence, I would love it for donations to be made to the Ileana Cuevas memorial fund at Detroit Cristo Rey. This fund is used to provide awards to students who are actively making a difference in their communities to lessen the effects of gun violence and domestic violence. To contribute, visit the online donation page here and put “Simmer – Cuevas fund” in the dedication note so that it goes to the correct place and so that I can extend my proper thanks.
IMAlive 247 Giving Challenge
IMAlive.org is the first online crisis chat center, providing support and assistance for those on the brink of suicide. IMAlive provides chat support for most hours of the day but they are trying to secure $50,000 to extend their service to a full 24/7 offering. As this week is National Suicide Prevention Week, they have set up a Giving Challenge to meet their goal. Click this link to donate today.
Thanks for your consideration and friendship. Your support of humanity is awesome.
